What is ISFC?

ISFC is a specialized form of foster care designed to provide intensive support and treatment for children with complex needs who require a higher level of care and supervision. It aims to improve the well-being and outcomes of children who have experienced significant trauma, have emotional or behavioral challenges, or require specialized medical or therapeutic services.

How ISFC Works

ISFC programs are implemented through partnerships between child welfare agencies, foster care providers, and service professionals. A multidisciplinary team—including mental health professionals, therapists, and educators—works closely with resource parents to ensure each child’s needs are met in a supportive, structured environment.

One key aspect of ISFC is the careful selection and training of resource parents. These resource parents undergo rigorous training and preparation to effectively care for children with complex needs. They receive ongoing support, supervision, and guidance from the ISFC program staff to ensure they have the necessary skills and resources to meet the child’s needs.

ISFC emphasizes stability and continuity of care. The program strives to minimize disruptions in the child’s placement by providing long-term, consistent foster care arrangements whenever possible. This stability is crucial for children who have experienced trauma or instability in their lives, as it helps them form secure attachments, build trusting relationships, and make progress in their healing and development.

The ultimate goal of ISFC is to improve the child’s overall functioning, well-being, and prospects for a successful future. By providing intensive support and services within a nurturing foster care environment, ISFC aims to help children overcome their challenges, develop resilience, and achieve positive outcomes in various domains of their lives, including their emotional, behavioral, educational, and social functioning.
