1. Orientation and Application:
- Attend orientation.
- Complete a KBYH application packet. For couples, both applicants must complete the packet.
2. Training:
- Complete a 12-hour training program. Available in-person, virtual, or online at your own pace.
- Complete a First Aid and CPR provided by KBYH.
- Complete a Water Safety Certification course.
- For couples, both individuals must fulfill the training requirements. Single applicants may complete the application individually.
3. Fingerprint Clearances:
- Submit to Live Scan fingerprinting.
- Provide a Criminal Record Statement and meet with a KBYH Social Worker to discuss any criminal convictions.
- All individuals 18 years or older living in the home must be fingerprinted.
4. Facility Requirements:
- The facility to be approved can be the applicant’s home or a rental.
- The facility must undergo and pass an inspection. Any discrepancies must be corrected before approval can be granted.
- Applicants residing in rentals, apartments, or other non-owned facilities must obtain written permission from the landlord or owner to operate a resource home (care for foster children on the premises).
